Get your free estimateClopay Opener Logic Board Repair: The Marietta Owner’s Guide
If your Clopay garage door opener has stopped responding to remotes, wall buttons, or its own safety sensors, the logic board is the usual suspect. This is the circuit board inside the opener’s powerhead that tells the motor when to run, which direction to turn, and when to stop. In Marietta, a Clopay logic board replacement typically runs $120 – $320 installed, parts and labor included, and we can usually have it done the same day.

Most homeowners don’t discover the logic board until the door does something strange: it won’t close all the way, the remotes work only when you’re standing directly under the unit, or the door opens halfway and reverses for no reason. The board controls every command the opener receives. When it starts to fail, the symptoms are often inconsistent. One day everything’s fine. The next morning, nothing. That’s the nature of solid-state electronics – they don’t always announce their retirement with smoke.
Which Clopay Models This Applies To
Clopay doesn’t manufacture its own opener motors. Clopay garage door openers are built and branded through partnerships, and the logic boards we replace cover the full range of Clopay-branded opener models sold over the last two decades: belt-drive and chain-drive units, ½ HP and ¾ HP motors, and the newer smart-enabled models with Wi-Fi modules built into the board itself.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people don’t know: the board inside your Clopay opener is not universal. Clopay openers from different years will have boards with the same physical footprint but different connector layouts. The board from a 2015 belt-drive unit won’t simply drop into a 2021 model, even if both say “Clopay” on the motor housing. That’s why we ask for the model number off the powerhead before we ever leave the shop, and why our technicians read the label on the unit itself before they touch a wire.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: we stock genuine OEM Clopay-compatible boards and quality aftermarket equivalents. The decision depends on the unit’s age. If your opener is still under a parts warranty, OEM is the move. If it’s a 12-year-old chain-drive that you’re nursing along, an aftermarket board usually saves you $40 – $80 and carries the same 365-day written guarantee we put on every repair. We’ll show you both options in writing before any work starts.

Signs Your Clopay Opener Logic Board Is Failing
- The opener ignores the remote and the wall button. When both input methods stop working simultaneously, power is reaching the unit but the command circuit isn’t. This is a board-level failure, not a remote battery issue.
- The door reverses for no reason mid-travel. The logic board reads resistance signals from the motor. A failing board misinterprets normal operation as an obstruction and reverses the door.
- The opener works from up close but not from your car. The radio receiver on many Clopay boards degrades over time. The motor still runs fine, but range drops from 100 feet to 10 feet before the receiver dies entirely.
- The unit hums but doesn’t move the door. The board is sending partial commands to the motor: enough to activate it, not enough to engage the drive gear. This is often misdiagnosed as a bad capacitor or motor.
- The opener randomly opens on its own. In Georgia humidity and heat, solder joints on logic boards expand and contract, creating phantom signals. We see this regularly in Marietta during July and August. A board that triggers the door unprompted is a security concern and needs attention.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Marietta, a Clopay logic board replacement runs $120 – $320 installed. The range comes down to three factors: whether you need an OEM or aftermarket board, the series of your opener, and whether we need to reprogram the unit’s travel limits and force settings after the swap (we do this on every logic board replacement as standard practice). The board itself is the smaller portion of the cost. You’re paying for the part, the install, the reprogramming, and the testing before we leave.
What’s included, every time: the new board, labor to remove and install, reprogramming the travel limits and force settings, testing the safety sensors and remote pairing, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it fails within 365 days from the date of repair, we come back and make it right at no charge. The price is written down and handed to you before a single bolt is turned. No verbal estimates, no invoice surprises.
DIY or Call Us?
A Clopay logic board is not a high-tension component like a torsion spring, so you won’t risk serious injury by opening the housing. But you will risk your time and the cost of the wrong board. The electrical side is low-voltage, which is safe to touch, but the diagnostic side is where DIY goes wrong. We’ve had homeowners in Marietta spend $150 on a board they found online, swap it in, and discover the problem was a wall button short, not the board.
What you can safely check: make sure the opener is plugged in, the outlet has power, and the safety sensor eyes are aligned. If those check out and the symptoms persist, the board is the likely culprit. We stock Clopay-compatible logic boards on our trucks, along with boards for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie, so we can diagnose and repair in a single visit most days. Call (762) 209-3693 and a live person will answer: day, night, weekend, or holiday. We’ll send you the technician’s name and photo before we head your way.
FAQs
A Clopay logic board typically lasts 10 to 15 years, but Marietta’s summer heat and humidity can accelerate solder joint failure. We’ve replaced boards that failed at 8 years and boards that lasted 20. The environment matters, and garages here get hot.
In our experience, repairing a failed logic board isn’t worth it. Board-level component repair (re-soldering individual capacitors or integrated circuits) costs as much in labor as a replacement board and carries no manufacturer support. We replace, then guarantee the repair in writing.
Most Clopay logic board replacements take 45 to 90 minutes, including removing the old board, installing the new one, reprogramming limits and force settings, and testing the unit. We do the work the same day in most cases.
We carry Clopay-compatible logic boards in our service vans for the most common Clopay opener series, along with boards for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie. If the specific board for your model isn’t on the truck, we can usually have it sourced and installed within 24 to 48 hours. Call (762) 209-3693 and we’ll confirm before we dispatch.
